Research: Connect with Respect: Preventing gender-based violence in schools (UNESCO)

Building on global collaboration with the United Nations Girls' Education Initiative (UNGEI) and other stakeholders, UNESCO developed the Connect with Respect (CwR) classroom programme initially for Asia-Pacific teachers to address SRGBV and cultivate respectful relationships among learners. Adapted for Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA), the CwR programme, which seeks to both prevent SRGBV and foster respectful, gender-equitable learning environments, was then piloted in Eswatini, Tanzania, and Zambia (2019-2020).

The purpose of this study was to understand how the CwR programme is implemented in different countries and different contexts by examining the specific cases of Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia. Findings from the study were then used to inform recommendations to enhance delivery, effectiveness, and sustainability of the CwR programme across all implementation countries.
